Period Confidence in School

Going to school while on your period can be stressful and often can bring some girls’ confidence down. When a female is on her period, she may often overthink causing her to believe that she has bled through her pants or that she is bleeding more than she is. These intrusive thoughts can cause women to feel unconfident. During school when you are on your period you may think these exact thoughts; often when you are overthinking about your period, you aren’t as focused on your schoolwork.

Here are a few ways to build your confidence during your period while remaining focused at school:

1. Always be prepared:

Being prepared with your favorite menstrual products and items that make you feel comfortable during your period can help put your mind at ease knowing you have everything you need during your period. Keeping a small bag full of products such as tampons, sanitary pads, intimate wipes, and menstrual pain relief so you are set up for a successful period.

2. Bathroom when you can:

In between classes or when you have a break stop and use the restroom. If you are paranoid and believe you have bled through or if you believe you are bleeding a lot use the bathroom any time you get a chance. This can help ease your mind and help you go to class confidentially.

3. Spare Clothes:

Keep a change of bottoms with you. In case you do bleed, being prepared with a backup of clothes can help stop your panic about what you’re going to do about the problem or how you will continue throughout your school day.

4. Accept your period:

Accepting that your period is a normal process that women go through can help you be confident knowing that you are not alone. There is a girl in your class that is most likely going through the same thing as you or maybe even one of your friends, but you’re not alone when it comes to having your period. There is nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed of when it comes to menstruation.

In-Conclusion:

Feeling unconfident while you’re in school and on your period is normal. Menstruation is already a very vulnerable time for women and going to school where they might not feel supported because menstruation isn’t talked about enough can make them feel even more vulnerable when it doesn’t have to. Being prepared, using the bathroom when you can, and accepting your period are a few ways that can help girls feel confident while attending school during their periods.

According to Cristiana Sandor, CEO of Stetho Health Systems, “Better Menstrual Health & Hygiene has been linked to a form of Women empowerment where with sufficient infrastructure, good-quality menstruation products, better privacy, and awareness, young girls and women can go to school, work, have careers, be amazing superwomen, without the worry of halt menstruation can bring to their lives.” Menstruation doesn’t have to get in the way of women attending school and at Stetho Health Systems we want to help women around the world show up for school while on their period confidentially.
