Menstrual Migraine

  According to Cleveland Clinic an estimate of 70% of people who experience migraines are women. Of those women 60 % to 70% of them have reported a connection between their menstrual cycle and their migraine attacks. Menstrual migraines are also known as hormone headaches and typically happen 2 days before a woman gets her period. Sometimes the migraine can last a few hours but in most cases it last about a day. Symptoms of a menstrual migraine: · Throbbing pain on one side of the head · Sensitivity to light · Nausea · Fatigue · Dizziness Why do women get menstrual headaches? During menstruation a woman’s estrogen and progesterone fluctuates as it travels through the bloodstream sending messages throughout the body. Estrogen is responsible for controlling the growth of the uterine lining during menstruation and progesterone is responsible for preparing the uterus for pregnancy and helps regulate a woman’s cycle.
