Menstrual Migraine
According to Cleveland Clinic an estimate of 70% of people who experience migraines are women. Of those women 60 % to 70% of them have reported a connection between their menstrual cycle and their migraine attacks. Menstrual migraines are also known as hormone headaches and typically happen 2 days before a woman gets her period. Sometimes the migraine can last a few hours but in most cases it last about a day.
Symptoms of a menstrual migraine:
· Throbbing pain on one side of the head
· Sensitivity to light
· Nausea
· Fatigue
· Dizziness
Why do women get menstrual headaches?
During menstruation a woman’s estrogen and progesterone fluctuates as it travels through the bloodstream sending messages throughout the body. Estrogen is responsible for controlling the growth of the uterine lining during menstruation and progesterone is responsible for preparing the uterus for pregnancy and helps regulate a woman’s cycle.
Midway thought your menstrual cycle a woman’s estrogen levels rises during ovulation helping with the release of an unfertilized egg from the ovary. Once a woman ovulates progesterone thickens the uterus lining prepping the uterus for a fertilized egg. If the egg enters the uterus and is not fertilized a woman’s progesterone levels drop resulting in menstruation.
Estrogen and progesterone levels decrease after ovulation and are the lowest right before a woman starts her period. The fluctuation in the hormone levels is what triggers some women to experience headaches.
Menstrual migraines can be extremely excruciating and can cause women to be unable to leave their houses due to the pain. Women shouldn’t have to sacrifice work, school, or daily activities because they have a menstrual migraine.

I had my TL a little more than a year ago when my third child was born via c-section. I was not told ANYTHING about the possible side effects of having this procedure. Since then I have experienced heavy bleeding lasting sometimes 3 weeks out of the month, weight gain, severe mood swings. Severe cramping, changes to my libido, severe depression accompanied by suicidal thoughts, headaches, migraines, many new symptoms & older issues are now exacerbated. The father of two of my children doesn't want me anymore. I've become too much of a pain in the ass I guess. We don't talk. We don't sleep in the same bed.
